I have some feelings about Sherlock.
Mostly good, although I feel uncomfortable with how Moffat and co. chose to handle some stuff about queer characters.
I mean, if they hadn’t decided to have Irene canonically declare that she was gay, then I wouldn’t really have a problem with the whole her attraction to Sherlock being a major plot point, but they decided to do that which gave that whole scene an uncomfortable vibe for me. Also lesbians can make puns too. I wouldn’t be able to resist making my phone say SHER-LOCKED. Because it’s hilarious. Not because I’m in love with him.
Also I really wanted her to find a way out of her trouble herself. The whole episode she’s this awesome, smart, beautiful woman who seems totally comfortable playing the game and then they make her beg and get on her knees and be rescued by a man.
That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy the episode, because I did, and I also fell in love with Irene Adler (I can’t decide if I want to be her or be with her) but then looking back on it afterwards…
I’ve wrote this post in about 10 minutes after taking muscle relaxers so it’s probably not as coherent or well-thought out as it should be but I wanted to write some of this stuff out before I fell asleep and forgot about it as I am wont to do.
